Articulating versus telescopic
- Articulating booms pivot around obstacles and place the platform in tight spots. They suit complex facades, pipe racks, and areas with overhead interferences.
- Telescopic booms extend in a straight line to reach distant points quickly. They suit long facade runs or elevated work where the base can sit well back from the structure.
Why local conditions change the spec
Outdoor access in the spring may cross soft or uneven surfaces, so ground clearance and drive performance influence which chassis can even approach the work. Winter pushes many projects indoors or to sheltered areas; in those cases, smaller articulating units may fit where telescopics cannot navigate.
Measurements to confirm before sizing
- Horizontal offset from safe parking to the work point
- Required platform height and any overhead obstructions
- Access width for gates and approaches
- Site exposure and procedures for elevated work
When a scissor is still better
If the task is straight up and within vertical reach from a stable base, a scissor can provide more deck space and capacity. See /electric-scissor-lift-rental/ for slab work and /rough-terrain-scissor-lift-rental/ for unfinished grades.
